Let’s take a step back in time when entertainers took the stage to croon songs to which we understood the words! Close your eyes… it’s Frank Sinatra. Singer Michael Andrew has many credits to his name. He was the headline singer and band-leader at the world famous Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center in New York City. He also performed that coveted role at Merv Griffin’s “Coconut Club” across the country in Beverly Hills, California. While on “Larry King Live,” Merv called Michael Andrew “one of the great singers of all time.” And we get to experience him live in Fayetteville!

6:00pm     Arrive back in Grove

Let’s take the opportunity to visit the world class art museum in our area.Crystal Bridges was founded in 2005 by the Walton Family Foundation as a nonprofit charitable organization for all to enjoy. Philanthropist and arts patron Alice Walton chairs the Museum’s board of directors. The building was designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie and opened to the public on
11-11-11. Even if you have visited the museum, the collection is ever changing.

Crystal Bridges’ permanent collection spans five centuries of American masterworks ranging from the Colonial era to the current day. Included within the collection are iconic images such as Asher B. Durand’s Kindred Spirits, Norman Rockwell’s Rosie the Riveter, and Andy Warhol’s Coca-Cola — each reflecting a distinct moment in American artistic evolution—as well as major works by modern and contemporary American artists, including Georgia O’Keeffe, John Baldessari, and James Turrell. The permanent collection, which continues to grow through acquisition, is on view year-round & is enhanced by an array of temporary exhibitions.

We expect the gardens and trails to be blooming and beautiful. Our visit includes a guided tour of the Frank Lloyd Wright house, an example Wright’s classic Usonian architecture. The word “Usonian” was derived from an abbreviation of “United States of North America.” Wright created this term to describe a distinctly American style of residential architecture he developed during the Great Depression to be within the reach of the average middle-class American family. Crystal Bridges acquired the house in 2013. The entire structure was then taken apart and each component was labeled, packed, & moved to the Museum, where it was reconstructed in 2015.

Lunch is included at Eleven, the restaurant at Crystal Bridges. The chef specializes in modern American comfort food with an emphasis on traditions that hail from the “High South” region…the Ozarks. The robust cuisine of Eleven not only nourishes, but tells a story—a story of the American spirit, inspired by the artworks, natural surroundings. After plenty of time to enjoy Crystal Bridges, we have a guided driving tour planned to highlight some of Bentonville’s new and old businesses!

Then we will wind down our day at the 8thStreet Market a community-focused food hub, where a spirit of creativity meets entrepreneurship. They support small and midsize local farmers, and we will enjoy some tastes and touring. A fun day, full of learning, beauty, great tastes & good times!
